Late Night Drive

submitted by Pumkin

Well this story doesnt necessarily happen to me, but I am aware of the incident and never pick up strangers at night. It started when my father, at a young age at the time decided to visit one of his cousins who live out of town. He said that one night he left around 8pm or later then that, when he was rolling down this long stretch of highway no lights in sight except for the distant flicker of street light which seemed so far away. He noticed a young fellow walking along side of the road when his car lights hit this persons back. He noticed that the guy was wearing a military uniform and he was carrying a duffel bag, like all service members do. He pulled over not to far ahead of him and rolled down his window to ask the fellow where he was headed. The service guy put his large duffel bag in the back of the vehicle, the wait of the duffel bag was great..because he could feel the weight that it put in the back of the vehicle. So the guy with out saying a word got into the vehicle. My father said that the guy seemed kind of strange, not wanting to talk but only look out of the window into the darkness. So my dad offers the guy a beer that he had in the back seat the guy looked over to my dad and with a very sly smile nodded his head. So my dad gave him a beer and the guy placed it between his legs not opening it or anything. They are driving along still in complete darkness, the radio was on and my dad being a talkative type was talking making converstation. Being caught up in his own converstation he looked over to the fellow who was sitting on the passanger side to ask him a question, when ....... all he saw was the can still on the seat, but no fellow. He looked in the back of his vehicle to see if the duffel bag was still there....nothing. It is as if he never picked up anyone. But my father swears up and down that he did pick up a service man. How strange is that?
